LLM Citations

LLM Citations: Be the Source the Answer Quotes

AI assistants cite a handful of sources per answer. We find out which ones they use for your category, and earn your place among them.

Short answer

LLM citation work has three steps: audit which sources ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini cite for your priority questions, map the gap between those sources and your footprint, then earn accurate mentions through publishable data, editorial outreach and directory presence. We do not buy links or reviews, and we cannot guarantee a citation.

Process

From invisible to cited, in four steps

1. Citation audit

Run a prompt set built from buyer questions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google AI features. Record every cited source, whether you appear, and what is said about you.

2. Gap map

Compare cited sources with your presence: which publications, directories, review sites and communities get cited where you are absent, and which pages of yours should be cited but are not.

3. Earn and fix

Publish citable assets, pitch editors, claim accurate profiles and fix incorrect facts at the source. Rebuild weak pages so passages can be lifted cleanly.

4. Re-test monthly

Repeat the same prompts, report net movement and flag where an AI answer changed. Single answers vary, so we track trends.

Measurement

Trends, not single answers

Tooling, honestly

We use prompt-testing frameworks and tools such as xFunnel.ai and Profound where they suit the account. No tool reproduces what every individual user sees, so we treat tool output as a trend line and validate key prompts by hand.

FAQ

LLM citation questions, answered

A mention is when an assistant names your brand in its answer. A citation is when it links to or attributes a specific source. Mentions build awareness; citations drive attributable traffic. We track both separately.
Retrieval-based assistants run searches, pull passages from pages they can fetch, and favor sources that are crawlable, clear, current and corroborated elsewhere. Exact weighting is not public and changes, so we measure empirically for your category instead of assuming.
To be retrievable for search-style answers, allow the vendor's search crawler: OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, PerplexityBot for Perplexity, Claude-SearchBot for Claude and Googlebot for Google. Training crawlers such as GPTBot are a separate licensing choice. Check current vendor documentation, as names and behavior change. See crawler table.
It is optional and unproven. We have not seen evidence that major AI search products require it, and Google says it is not needed. If you want one for documentation-style sites, it is cheap to add, but it is not a priority.
No, and we would not. We earn mentions by publishing citable data and pitching real editors, directories and trade media. Paid-link schemes, fake reviews and spam networks put your brand at risk.
